Azathioprine Tablets (Xinyi) Interactions

Allopurinol can inhibit mercaptopurine (the latter is the active metabolite of azathioprine) metabolism into inactive products. As a result of mercaptopurine toxicity increasing, when the two must be taken at the same time, the dose of azathioprine should be greatly reduced. Azathioprine can reduce the rate of inactivation of 6-mercaptopurine. 6-mercaptopurine is inactivated through the following ways: enzyme S-methylation, oxidation of the enzyme does not relate to the enzyme, or by the xanthine oxidase converted to thiolate oxidase to thiopurines, etc. Azathioprine reacts with sulfhydryl compounds such as glutathione and acts as a precursor drug by slowly releasing 6-mercaptopurine in tissues.
