Atomoxetine Application Scope

Atomoxetine is indicated for the treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children aged 6 years and older, adolescents, and adults. It helps improve attention, control impulsivity, and reduce hyperactive behavior by selectively inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine in the central nervous system.

Guidelines for the Use of Jianmin

  • Dosage and Administration:

    • Recommended Dose:

      • Children and Adolescents (≤70 kg): Initial 0.5 mg/kg/day, may increase to 1.2 mg/kg/day after ≥3 days

      • Children and Adolescents (>70 kg) & Adults: Initial 40 mg/day, may increase to 80 mg/day after ≥3 days; maximum 100 mg/day

    • Administration: Administer orally, once or twice daily, with or without food

    • Missed Dose:​ Take as soon as remembered; skip if near next dose, do not double

  • Adverse Reactions:

    • Common Adverse Reactions:

      • Decreased appetite

      • nausea

      • vomiting

      • dry mouth

      • fatigue

      • insomnia

      • dizziness

    • Serious Adverse Reactions:

      • Rare cases of liver injury

      • suicidal ideation

      • severe allergic reaction

  • Contraindications:

    • Known hypersensitivity to Atomoxetine or excipients

    • Use within 14 days after MAO inhibitors

    • Narrow-angle glaucoma

  • Precautions:

    • Monitor growth in children

    • Use with caution in cardiovascular disorders, hepatic impairment, and psychiatric disorders

    • Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially at treatment initiation

Atomoxetine Interactions

  • CYP2D6 inhibitors (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine) may increase plasma concentration

  • Monitor when co-administered with pressor agents (e.g., pseudoephedrine)

  • Avoid use with MAO inhibitors
