Rotigotine Application Scope

Rotigotine is indicated for the management of Parkinson’s disease, including early and advanced stages, to help improve motor function and reduce symptoms such as tremor, rigidity, and bradykinesia. It is also approved for the treatment of moderate to severe Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS) in adults, providing relief from uncomfortable sensations in the legs and the strong urge to move them, particularly during periods of rest or at night.

Guidelines for the Use of Jinyouping

  • Dosage and Administration:

    • Recommended Dose:

      • Parkinson’s disease: starting dose usually 2 mg/24 h, titrated to optimal clinical effect (up to 16 mg/24 h)

      • Restless Legs Syndrome: starting dose 1 mg/24 h, may be increased to 3 mg/24 h

    • Administration: Transdermal patch; change patch every 24 hours

    • Missed Dose:​ Apply a new patch as soon as remembered; do not apply two patches at once

  • Adverse Reactions:

    • Common Adverse Reactions: Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, somnolence, insomnia, peripheral edema, application site reactions

    • Serious Adverse Reactions: Impulse control disorders (e.g., compulsive gambling, hypersexuality), hallucinations, orthostatic hypotension, sudden sleep episodes, severe skin reactions

  • Contraindications:

    • Known hypersensitivity to rotigotine or patch excipients

    • Severe allergic reactions to adhesives

    • Conditions where dopamine agonists are contraindicated

  • Precautions:

    • Monitor for sudden sleep onset, psychiatric symptoms, or behavioral changes.
